Sudden Asphyxic Asthma
A rare, sudden, and often fatal form of asthma.
Sudden, asphyxic asthma is a rare form of asthma which develops in less than 10 % of asthmatics.  It manifests in sudden, severe muscular contractions in the respiratory tract causing respiratory arrest and often cardiac arrest and death.  The usual thick mucus of asthma is lacking.  The onset is very sudden (less than 3 hours and sometimes in minutes) in a previously well appearing person.  Response to bronchodiladors (albuterol) is equally rapid.
